Shepway District Council Engineering Capabilities. 

Shepway District Council’s Engineering Team comprises seven staff with, collectively, more than 100 years of experience in local government and engineering consultancies.

Services that the team can provide include:- 

  • Project scoping and feasibility
  • Project management
  • Contract administration (NEC3 & JCT)
  • Site supervision
  • Civil engineering design (drainage, highways & coast protection)
  • Structural engineering design (buildings and bridges)
  • Contaminated land remediation
  • Production of drawings using AutoCAD
  • CDM Co-ordination
  • Topographical surveying (using both GPS & Total Station equipment)

Examples of engineering projects undertaken by Shepway District Council;

Remodelling of Shepway District Council Offices

Value: £<250,000

SDC in house team designed and project managed the offices at Shepway District Council as part of the WoW (Ways of Working) Project.  The purpose being to increase efficiency by changing the way of working to a hot desking system.  The project was split into five Phases; Planning (in house), Floor 1 (Phase 2 and 3) and Floor 2 (Phase 4 and 5). Phase 1 was completed in May 2013 and Phase 4 commences in October 2014.  

The final outcome will provide 200 workstations, 2 printer stations, 2 kitchens and several meeting rooms of various sizes.

Ross Depot waste recycling facility

Value: £1m

Refurbishment and conversion of an existing Council Depot to a multi-purpose facility incorporating waste recycling.  Works involved new build, car parking, lighting and installation of an MRF.


Hythe to Folkestone Harbour Coast Protection Scheme

Value: £14m

Beach replenishment, rock structures, coastal revetments, sea walls and amenity improvements.


Romney Warren Rail Halt

Value: 25k

A timber platform and steps forming part of the improvements to the Romney Warren Visitor’s Centre.


Greatstone MUGA

Value: 25k

A multi-use games area built on the site of the Greatstone car park.


On-going contracts

Hythe to Folkestone beach management

Value: 220k/annum

The current beach recycling contract is ongoing and works take place in Spring and Autumn to restore the beaches to their design profile.


Strategic Regional Coastal Monitoring Programme

Value: 80k/annnum

Undertaking detailed topographical surveys to ascertain beach levels and monitor long term sediment dynamics.
